Move in day for new students

Date/Time: Saturday, August 26, 2023
Location: Academic Dates

Most of you will be arriving next Saturday, August 20th between 8 am and 2pm.  We have assigned you move-in times and routes based on your room numbers.  We are asking that you try to stick to your assigned time as best you can.  We have this set up so we can maximize elevator use and streamline the move-in process. Please make sure that every container, trunk, suitcase, etc. has your name, hall, and room number listed.

When you pull up to the building, students are to report to the check in table to pick up their ID/key cards. While they are doing that, volunteers will start to unload your vehicle. The driver must stay in the vehicle. Once fully unloaded, the driver will be directed to a parking lot and can return to the building to assist their student with moving in.8 am to 10 am: 3rd floor

Woodlands Apartment Complex: Community Room Vehicles may not stay parked in the middle of campus or in front of your building.  If you have a driver with you, they are to stay in the vehicle while you check in. Unload the vehicle and the driver can then move the car to an approved lot. If you do not have a driver, after you check in, unload your vehicle, and move it to an approved parking space. Students who arrive after 4:30 pm should contact the RA duty phone in order to retrieve their key. Signs are posted in each Residential area with RA duty phone numbers and contact information.Early arrivals for sports, clubs, and orientation:Student groups required to return early will pick up their key cards from their coaches, advisors, supervisors, etc.Your RA's will connect with you to review your Room Condition Form, which is the form we use to document damage and problems.

Mental Health Awareness Day

The event is held from 10am-4pm on Tuesday, October 10th. The schedule of events with their locations is as followed:

Mental Health Artwork Gallery from 10/2/23-10/13/23 (Insalaco- Kresge Gallery): display of student artwork set up in the Learning Commons. The artwork submissions are all related to mental health and mental illness, with the purpose of raising awareness and educating those who come to view it.

10-4 Stress Relief Workshops (Latour): Clubs and Departments will have their own tables set up around the room with a stress relieving activity and informational handout. These workshops are all meant to allow students to begin practicing stress relieving activities and healthy coping mechanisms right then and there, and hopefully teach them new ways to express their feelings.

10-4 Raffle Baskets (Fireplace Lounge): Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day to enter a series of prizes. Students will receive a bingo card upon entry and will get their card stamped at each event/table they go to. If they get bingo, they can win tickets for free to enter the prizes. These cards can also be used as proof of attendance. However, raffle tickets are available to purchase throughout the day with both cash and Venmo being accepted. All proceeds will be given to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Winners will be announced at 4:00 pm.

11:00-11:30 Educational Piece (Upper Naz): Dr. Lia Palmiter will be giving a presentation on recognizing the common signs and symptoms of mental illnesses with the intentions of raising awareness to mental health.

11:30-12:00 On Campus Resources (Upper Naz): Student health services and CSDC will be giving a presentation on the resources available to students on campus and provide them with the information on what to do or where to go if they themselves are experiencing mental health issues or if a friend is.

12:00-12:30 Off Campus Resources (Upper Naz): Ray McDonald and Nicole Guerico will be giving a presentation on nearby resources in the community for any students who may be struggling.

12:30-1:00 Mental Health in Underserved Communities (Upper Naz): Dr. Yerodin Lucas and Keshia Vilchert will be giving a presentation about mental health in communities that are underserved. This piece is meant to raise awareness about how mental health looks different in many communities and what it looks like for those who are underserved.

1:00-1:30 Mental Health in Athletes (Upper Naz): Becca Zayle will be giving a presentation on Morgan’s Message and raising awareness about mental health in student athletes.

1:00-3:00 Therapy Dogs: There will be therapy dogs located outside in between Madonna and Nazareth for all to come play with and relieve stress as long as weather permits!

7:00 pm Keynote Speaker (Latour): Clayton Echard, a celebrity from the Bachelor, will be speaking in the evening following the main events of the day. Clayton is a mental health advocate who speaks about body dysmorphia and general anxiety/depression. He has also spent a short time in the NFL playing for the Seattle Seahawks, so references will be made to athletic mental health.

This Halloween Festival will be held on the Art Field to raise money for a local breast cancer awareness society, Breast Friends! The festival will include a 3K walk/run (“Trick or Trot”) around campus, trick or treating, and numerous Halloween activities for local young children!

It’s a great opportunity for volunteer hours to benefit a great cause, and we can use your help in any way possible! You can sign up as a club or group, or you can sign up individually.

Volunteer categories:

Work the Trick or Trot! - Placed at different spots around campus to direct the flow of walkers/runners to the proper routes.

Man the First Aid tent - provide water, small snacks, and first aid to any participants in the walk/run.

Work the festival! - Volunteer as a club/group to provide a fun Halloween activity for young children. Some examples of these may include painting pumpkins, Guess the Halloween candy, Spooky science experiments, Face painting, Halloween crafts, and more!

of stalking.
Stalking is defined as a pattern of behavior directed at a specific person that causes fear.
Many stalking victims experience being followed, approached, monitored and/or
threatened—including through various forms of technology. Victims and survivors often
suffer anxiety, social dysfunction, and severe depression as a result of their victimization,
and many lose time from work and/or move.
As a part of the Department of Justice Grant, Project SHARE, Marywood’s prevention
education efforts of the grant will be supporting a Stalking Awareness Week, January 22-
26, 2024. The events scheduled are as follows:
? January 22 - Sweet Information Table, Learning Commons, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m.:
This will be a tabling event where students can pick up information (flyers,
brochures, etc) about Stalking Awareness on a college campus.

Guests will be inspired and invigorated by the stories of guest speakers, who will share their experiences through personal narratives. Those who attend will have the opportunity to ask the featured speakers questions and enjoy complimentary dessert and coffee during the event. This event is free and open to the public. Funds will be raised through the purchase of 50/50 and basket raffle tickets. Tickets will be $5 for the general public and $1 for Marywood University Students. Individuals who wish to support the fundraiser but not attend the event may purchase tickets virtually to contribute to ASEC’s fundraising goal and enter for their chance to win the 50/50 raffle. Guests are not required to be present to win the 50/50. Basket raffle tickets as well as a door prize are available to attendees only. A ticket is not required for entry. All proceeds will go directly to support ASEC’s mission to transform communities in 10 Sub-Saharan African countries where over 6,500 Catholic sisters have already been served through the robust educational programs ASEC offers. Each donation will be generously matched 1.5x by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, greatly amplifying the impact of every dollar raised.

In honor of Constitution Day, Marywood's School of the Humanities will be hosting local historians EJ Murphy for a talk on debates around voting rights in Pennsylvania. This talk will explore voting rights in Pennsylvania in the late 1830s and the subsequent constitutional changes that came with the intense debates over suffrage and voting rights for Black Pennsylvanians. With a focus on Northeastern Pennsylvania and Northeastern Pennsylvanians, this program will give context to the cultural, political, and social landscape of the region during this time period, and the impact that it had on our state and national legal and constitutional systems during the Civil War era.
